Acceptance criteria

Observable conditions that a result must satisfy before it is accepted or used.

Definition

Observable conditions that a result must satisfy before it is accepted or used.

Practical test

Can an operator determine pass, escalate, or fail from observable evidence before the result is used?

Example

An invoice workflow requires exact total agreement and zero writes outside the approved record set; “looks accurate” is not a criterion.

What to record

For acceptance criteria to be operational rather than a reassuring label, record the requirement, measurement, threshold, owner, and recorded result. If those facts cannot be observed or tested, do not treat the term itself as evidence that the workflow is safe.
